The latest super buzz in beauty – sustainable, effective, natural and organic – reflects a trend that’s rapidly gaining momentum and revenue. We go 360 on clean beauty, from the latest innovation in ingredients, and why conscious consumers – led by Gen Z and Millennials – are driving the change.
The clean beauty movement, once a niche trend has gone completely mainstream. A new report, released in February 2019 by the British Soil Association Certification, announced that conscious consumerism pushed the UK organic beauty and wellbeing market to an all-time high, with millennials and Gen Z leading the way.
As Clarins debuts a vegan skincare line (vegan, paraben-free, sulphate-free and phthalate-free, with packaging made from recycled material sourced from sustainably-managed forests), and Wella Professionals introduces plant-based hair colour, it’s clear that the clean beauty movement has gained serious momentum.
We get sent a lot of samples from the Instagram beauty must-haves to the Sephora bestsellers, products that claim to be 100% organic yet when you look carefully at their ingredient list it’s packed with chemicals regardless. Don’t believe me? Go have a look! So when we got our hands on Ollia Tzarina’s new organic high-end brand ‘Bio Lab Exotique ‘ that she has launched with a Pakistani-based billionaire Asghar Akhtar Khan and saw the label that ambitiously promises us visible effects within 48 hours we were sceptical, it can’t be done just by nature, can it? The ingredient list, however, has 3-6 items in it. ( depending on the product, they have two: ‘ YOUTH’ and ‘ELIXIR’ ) and they are all just oils. No chemicals to preserve the product, no chemicals to get rid of smells ( natural oils will always have some sort of a nut/seed odour to them) just rare oils mixed in scientific proportions in the lab. After testing both products, ‘YOUTH’ which is a portion of avocado, argan and prickly pear oils, and ‘ELIXIR’ which has such rare oils like marula and neem by Bio Lab Exotique, not only did I feel like my skin was treated by the best beautician money can buy but I had more of a babyface effect. The face was plumper, lifted and super hydrated.
I will 100% use these oil potions from now on instead of my 200 euro products # Converted
